Hello:

I'm doing some research on Christian attitudes toward the environment, and asking Christian bloggers to share their thoughts about their relationship to the Earth.

For instance: Is Earth merely a staging area for the converted to be jettisoned from in the rapture?

Do you beleive that the world will end in your lifetime?

If you fear that the belief in the End Times among high levels of government is a recipe to catastrophe, what ideas do you have to prevent it?

Thank you,
John Denton

Have fun answering those questions. Just stumbled upon your site. Looks good. I'll have to check your book out. soli deo gloria,

Julianne

John,

I don't believe in the rapture, in the "Left Behind" sense. So my answer to your first question is no.

And I don't believe the world will end in my lifetime. I think the Second Coming is a long way off.

If fear of the end times is a real problem, then educating Christians about the errors of dispensationalism (and its end-times scenario) is the best remedy.

do you think that baptism is necessary to salvation? i'm sorta studying up on this and am struggling with it. you might have written on this in the past.. if so just direct me with a link or something. i'm just seeking to learn. thanks, derik

I don't think baptism is *necessary* for salvation (obviously--we need only consider the thief on the cross.

There are enough commands to be baptized in scripture that I would seriously question anyone who was reluctant.

For some good reading on the subject, I would suggest the section XXVIII on baptism on the Westminster Confession of Faith.

The only problem I have with the theif on the cross is that Jesus Christ had not yet died nor been resurrected... and so our call to be buried with Christ in baptism is not relevant at the time when the thief was told he would be with him in heaven. Does that make sense? And Jesus had the authority to give forgiveness of sins by whatever means he desired, not that he doesn't anymore, but that there has to be a standard somewhere, and scripture seems to call specifically to be baptized into the name of Christ. But what then, do you say to someone with a heart seemingly surrendered to God, but who has not ever been baptized. Like I said I'm struggling with this so I'm kind of on the fence, but the salvation of the thief seems to be under very different circumstances than those who came into the kingdom after pentecost.

David, I checked out the blog and didn't see anything at all about underwear. I'm terribly disappointed. grin

Well, if you have any links or book recommendations on this topic let me know. ~Derik

Darn, no undies. Dr. Heddle, you disappoint me.

Any chance we might be able to smuggle a copy into Manila? :D
