Thanks for this post! I actually taught a Sunday School lesson recently, as we studied through the sermon on the mount, looking at it as the "New" Ten Commandments, similar to your "upgraded versions" concept. I'm interested to continue reading your thoughts on NCT.

I'm looking forward to your journey. I have much the same struggle and followed much the same path.

Sometimes, I give up on having a perfect theology, knowing that I will never attain such confidence, but in His grace, He always draws me to continue the pursuit of bringing my theology more and more into His light.

Death ends the jurisdiction of [the] law [cf. Romans 7]. That's one why the division of the Mosaic Law into civil, ceremonial, and moral is so off the mark. The other, of course, being that law doesn't work. No matter what form it takes, whether the 10 Commandments, the 613 elements of the Mosaic Law, US law, or any other law -- external rules increase sin. They do not diminish it (Rom. 5). My Golden Retriever did not need an external set of rules for how to live; she lived according to the nature God gave her. And so it is will all nature, except fallen man. However, under the New Covenant, we have died with Christ and risen with Him and live by the new nature given us.

cool, so my theology has a name. hehe

when people ask me its easy - love your God and love your neighbour. this is the sum of the law. jesus himself said it so I have no idea why people have gotten themselves into so many knots about it!

I can only imagine what a hassle it must be for genuine believers to discuss scripture and belief. My heart goes out to you all. Not only can you guys not agree on the past, you cannot agree on the present or future for that matter.

New Covenant, Old Covenant, I say potato you say dill pickle...These Commandments or those commandments. How you believers navigate the maze of faith is staggering to me.

Listening to religionists talk about religion is like attending an AA meeting from hell, where EVERYONE has their own little higher power and no two are alike.

Ever been to an AA meeting? I have never seen so much idolatry in my life! Everyone has their own personal pocket deity that they just made up from thin air.

Anyhow, I suppose I'm as skeptical of the "New Covenant" as I am of the "Old Covenant"
