Gravatar It is not about race. Obama is the only politician with the balls to unequivocally get us out of the Iraq quagmire. If you don't think this is the right thing to do, read this letter by Kevin Tillman (brother of Pat Tillman, who was killed by "friendly fire" in Afghanistan in 2004) about a conversation he had with his brother before they joined the military. Kevin served in Iraq and Afghanistan from 2002 to 2005, and has the right to be heard by every American.

It is Pat’s birthday on November 6, and elections are the day after. It gets me thinking about a conversation I had with Pat before we joined the military. He spoke about the risks with signing the papers. How once we committed, we were at the mercy of the American leadership and the American people. How we could be thrown in a direction not of our volition. How fighting as a soldier would leave us without a voice… until we get out.

Much has happened since we handed over our voice:

Somehow we were sent to invade a nation because it was a direct threat to the American people, or to the world, or harbored terrorists, or was involved in the September 11 attacks, or received weapons-grade uranium from Niger, or had mobile weapons labs, or WMD, or had a need to be liberated, or we needed to establish a democracy, or stop an insurgency, or stop a civil war we created that can’t be called a civil war even though it is. Something like that.

Somehow America has become a country that projects everything that it is not and condemns everything that it is.

Somehow our elected leaders were subverting international law and humanity by setting up secret prisons around the world, secretly kidnapping people, secretly holding them indefinitely, secretly not charging them with anything, secretly torturing them. Somehow that overt policy of torture became the fault of a few “bad apples” in the military.

Somehow back at home, support for the soldiers meant having a five-year-old kindergartener scribble a picture with crayons and send it overseas, or slapping stickers on cars, or lobbying Congress for an extra pad in a helmet. It’s interesting that a soldier on his third or fourth tour should care about a drawing from a five-year-old; or a faded sticker on a car as his friends die around him; or an extra pad in a helmet, as if it will protect him when an IED throws his vehicle 50 feet into the air as his body comes apart and his skin melts to the seat.

Somehow the more soldiers that die, the more legitimate the illegal invasion becomes.

Somehow American leadership, whose only credit is lying to its people and illegally invading a nation, has been allowed to steal the courage, virtue and honor of its soldiers on the ground.

Somehow those afraid to fight an illegal invasion decades ago are allowed to send soldiers to die for an illegal invasion they started.

Somehow faking character, virtue and strength is tolerated.

Somehow profiting from tragedy and horror is tolerate

Gravatar Oh please. You left wing dirtbags make me want to vomit.

You can bitch until the cows come home about an 'illegal' invasion of Iraq and alleged government 'lying', but all you're really doing is hamstringing American power for the forseeable future.

Come at me with all the conspiracy theories that you will, but all the evidence from unbiased sources points to our political and intelligence apparatus's belief that there were WMD in Iraq. Even the Russians and the French thought so. That Bush tuned out to be wrong in invading Iraq will not be disputed on this website. What I do take issue with is the notion that the president's mistake is something that was a cynical power and oil grab. As a matter of fact, since the president has considerably less of both since the invasion, your moonbatty assumptions rest on weak legs.

In any case, the only real thing the left has accomplished for all of these 'illegal war' recriminations is that any future president, including Mr. Hussein Obama, will be utterly incapable of making any judgement calls when it comes to the use of military force. We will be stuck in a position that America will be unable to act unless we have intelligence that is absolutely certain, and anyone in the intelligence community will tell you that intelligence is never absolutely certain.

So in your own naive way, thanks for making us more vulnerable to attack, both now and for years down the road.

Oh, and for your secret prison crap- now hear this : I DONT GIVE A FLYING FUCK ABOUT TERRORIST PRISONS. Matter of factly, I think we don't torture them enough. I think castration with a rusty screwdriver should be mandatory for anyone caught running around Afghanistan or Iraq with terrorist intentions.

Do you really think you can crack these brutal Islamic fascist beast with hugs and love and afternoon tea? I am not fighting a war of ideals with terrorists, I am fighting a war of anihilation and they are the ones that have to go.

Gravatar Holy shit! I lost my "voice" when I enlisted? You mean I can't vote anymore? Who knew? Thanks Mr. Stillman for letting me know! What a load of crap.

Gravatar God, that picture is so so funny. :P

Gravatar We are so screwed.

Thank the gop hogs for giving us this obamanation.

Gravatar "Obama is the only politician with the balls to unequivocally get us out of the Iraq quagmire"

You are a moron. Did you see the debates? All of the democrats, with the exception of Bill Richardson, agree that we will still be here for another 5 plus years. And if you think President Obama will keep us out of wars, think again. He has stated that he would invade Pakistan. Sorry, you clown, but I would much rather take my chances in Iraq than there.

Gravatar I hear ya, Daphne. This was all ultimately caused by Republican decadence. There is no party for small government and individual liberties.
