I was actually amazed by the lack of nutjobs that commented on the piece. Being huffpo, there were certainly a fair amount of nutjobs, but not nearly as many as one usually finds commenting there.

Not only do you not get sarcasm, you fail to understand that the author of this piece took most of his premise (and words) from previously published right wing writers who have been labeled "islamophobes". That the comment thread didn't meet your expectation of leftist rant, wasn't an acknowledgment of his premise , it was that they didn't read it or deem it as relevant to their multi-cultural storyline.
The progressive left will never give any credence to complaints against Muslim intolerance in Western society. They'll let gays, women, free speech, and their liberal brethren get thrown under the bus in the face of muslim complaints.
9/11 didn't scare them, but being labeled as racist, intollerant bigots sends them running for cover.
