Oh man, what a post! I spent one of the great nights of my life at Jr's club in Holly Springs one cold winter night before he died (and before it burned down). It was like walking back into the 20s, concrete floor, wood burning stove in the middle of the floor, and me and my girlfriend and her friend the only white people around. And Jr playing with the Soul Blues Boys, rockin' like I've never heard. I forgot my wallet, and at that time there were no ATMs in Holly Springs (!), and we scraped together 5 bucks or so to buy a few beers, which were cans of bud or busch for a buck, I believe. Late that night, we wanted to split one more, and were counting out dimes, when a big dude by the pool table motioned me over. I told him what had happened, and he gave me a 5 to have a good time on. These were poor people, generally. Unbelievable. I could go on and on. What a night. To think no one can ever again go there and see Jr rocking out, it's just too sad.
Thanks for the post!
