Difster...you have given a wonderful example of religion and just what religionists do. The Holy(Set Apart) is exchanged for the profane and no regard for He that sits upon the throne. Perhaps it is done by just ignorance, but most of the time it is the religionists in their attempt to gain some recognition. After all, wasn't it always the attempt by the Adversary to steal or lie to gain the attention of others (worship)?

Unbridled enthusiasim without any thought process engaged. Most think it a cute and easy way to witness. Most are sent by young (in faith and age).
Aswesome reply though, I have to use it!

Failure to use logic and reason?
How many people these days use logic and reason to witness about anything?

That was a clever rebuttal with the PayPal thing...little shit hates Jesus!

All "if you love Jesus, you'll do..." get automatically trashed at my house. What I don't get is that most of the folks who send these things to me couldn't share their faith outside the cozy walls of their likeminded group. And I'm the one who doesn't love Jesus?

Religion, fear of face to face, who knows. Regardless, it was dumb, and I'm glad you replied the way you did. Hopefully the light is dawning somewhere.

I've seen messages along these lines many times, & I agree: they're dumb.

Why do so many of us Christians fail to use logic and reason when attempting to tell people about our faith?

Because your faith is based on a total lack of logic and reason. Seems to me to be completely in sync.

D'oh! Only the quote was supposed to be in Italics. BTW, I responded about the Drug debate at Katey's.

Good response.

Hmm, "If you believe in God, send $100 to my PayPal account. If you don't, you're denying him."

The temptation to misuse this is strong.

Still, the silly MySpace posting gave you a great opening to give ZR the real Gospel.

I hate that kind of message SO MUCH! I have deleted several of them from my e-mail.

I think people that pass that kind of message around don't have a very good relationship with their Father, or they'd know better.

I find it sad when Christians use these types of tactics. It is usually done in ignorance, but is sad. We are called to share our faith, but this only makes us look bad.

Love the blog, keep up the good work. I read it every day and have you linked on my blog.

It's like the good luck/bad luck e-mails that get forwarded to you. It's too bad, as I think it probably tends to turn people off more than bring them to Christ.

I LOATHE those good luck/bad luck e-mails. Delete, delete, delete! And I'm still here!

I know. My hubby gave into a moment of weakness and forwarded one lately because it came from one of his daughters that he hardly ever gets to see. I think the rest of us wanted to nicely wring his neck about it. LOL! I like that ol' delete key now I've learned to use it. It works just FINE!
Love and shalom,

trust me Amigo, Difster and our boss have had plenty of time to give me the real gospel, and I agree with fitch

Why do so many of us Christians fail to use logic and reason when attempting to tell people about our faith?

Man, this is a big peeve of mine. Why do they not use logic? Because they don't think any deeper than using tactics of coercion to influence and it's usually only the other weak minded christians that they do. I can't stand these things in my e-mail and have responded to those sending them in the past but don't anymore because, again, they don't understand much beyond a feeling level.

Thanks for letting me know that I'm not alone in this. I might have cried myself to sleep again tonight thinking otherwise.

Seems Haloscan took my *sarcasm* tags seriously in my last paragraph...

Incredibly sad bunch of individuals, I know. Gosh. *hangs head in shame*

I have a friend who, after sending out those bulletins, sends me five different "send this to 8 strong womyn" or "don't deny Him" emails.

"Move to trash..." where it belongs.

Very to the point. I couldn't have said it better myself, Difster.

Off topic: Dif (i posted this in options but you may not see it)... check out this on inflation

Not that I am complaining, But I guess my Christian freinds don't like me enough to send thier chain e-mails.

It could be all those times I sent them back to them with critiques. Some people can only take just so much feeling stupid.

Excellent tactic, Roci.

We (humans) use the tactics/methods that won us over in the first place, or that we think will make an impact. The problem is, frequently we don't recognize what makes a BAD impact vs. a good one, or what will make a temporary impact vs. a long-term one.

I hate that type of chain letter, though. It's obnoxious, doesn't get the point across, and alienates more people than not.

I get emails like that pretty regularly from a couple of guys, but the funny part is that neither of them are Christians. I just trash them anyway. Chain letters are chain letters no matter what the subject might be.

I'm a blog virus. Please copy me into all of your comments so that I can live and flourish.
