Here's an alternative view...perhaps the Dems don't actually view these folks like children.

Instead, what we cons view as paternalism and/or condescension is actually high-toned vote buying. The Dems are paying off their constituencies with taxpayer monies.

One of the more disgusting and insidious practices they have along these lines, and have had for decades, is mandating that certain government contracts must be awarded to woman and minority-owned businesses. It's bad enough that contractors cost so much for many reasons (finding labor is expensive and tax law adds a lot of overhead), but they don't even mandate that the first criteria be competence!

It is just more looting. Like the stimulus bill and the bank bailouts and the auto industry/union bailouts. There are trillions of dollars just waiting for someone to pocket. A whole lot of people will get rich of of it (but not you, you get to pay the bill).

The local radio stations (music) are pushing to keep a bailout of the 4 big record companies from passing. Actually, its not a bailout per-se. Its a "performance tax" which would be on top of what the radio stations already pay for the music they play. And apparently three of the four are overseas companies.

Is it that anyone can now plunder our treasury? Or do companies see a dying beast that they all want a piece of before it dies and their gravy train ends?

In 19th Century England, they called it "White Man's Burden." Naturally, you could not expect children, frail women, or ignorant savages overseas to understand how to run a proper business or manage a government. It fell to those who could - white men - to shoulder that burden.

Provincial? Insulting? Egotistical?
Probably all three.

Still true?

Hmmmm.

I know that next time I'm in the market to buy a new car, it won't be from a company that has received bailout money. That was one of the first things that crossed my mind when the auto industry bailout idea was first getting kicked around.

But they will be taking our money and giving it to others. Most likely those who vote to put the bureaucrats in office.

Oh but they do treat us like children, Dif.

They treat us like schoolyard bullies who are responsible for the suffering of others, and they try to shame us into becoming "better" persons.
