Really, I could have ripped him on his description of San Francisco too but that was way off topic.
Dif -- Conservatives resist change, that's all. They don't have a coherent ideology like libertarians, constitutionalists, marxists, etc. That's the real breakdown a modern conservative had their mold set in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Very different from a conservative of the 20's and even different between those decades. This is why progressives always win, the playing field gets changed continuously over time.
Well, here's my opinion of your little group, Dif:
Steve, Rick, Jerry, and Paula are on the right track. Their personal ideologies may not be as sophisticated as Difster's, but they seem to have a basic appreciation for liberty.
Mike seems kindhearted, but is foolish and perhaps a bit dim. He's the kind of person P.T. Barnum would have loved.
Lisa is outright dangerous. Stalinesque, even. Keep her away from kids and out of positions of authority.
Mike's comments about San Francisco are laughable.
While most of the nation points to San Fancisco as the bastion of liberalism and the seat of anti-americanism... most of us here don't feel that way at all.
Well, if he doesn't feel a certain way, then it must not be true. Feelings are objective facts, after all; it's not like they come and go almost at random.
Perhaps your conversations with these people will do some good, Dif. I doubt it, but you never know.
Lisa, the original poster has actually come a long way. She got her butt handed to her once over feminism at Vox's and really changed her tune. Since then, me and another friend have managed to turn her against Obama's health plan and at least most abortion.
Re: Matt Shepard.
All that happened was a meth deal gone bad. There never was a "hate crime" involved with it. Just another example of the left taking any chance to push their agenda.
I didn't know about the drugs with regard to Shepard.
