How can you tell the debilitating effects of a stroke from his normal, um, peculiar idiosyncracies?
Maybe it's just bad gin?
Or perhaps a twinge of conscience? I've heard when you are that far gone that even the slightest bit of conscience can be devastating.

They stabbed it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast...
Welcome to the hotel California...
Or, something like that.

What matters, though, is that it will be the end of Kennedy.

I was in a grocery store browsing the book rack one time and saw a book on Ted. It was written by a former intern who longed to make a difference. Of course, being idealistic and naive, he (she?) was a democrat and was thrilled to go work for Ted Kennedy one summer.
I read the intro and part of the first chapter, then skipped to the middle. By then, the intern had lost faith. I read a part about how they were at a hotel where Ted was in a function behind closed doors. Then the doors opened and Ted crawled out into the hallway on all fours, drunk off his ass, and buck naked. Staffers from the room wrangled the drunken sow back into the room and closed the doors.
The majority of the book seemed to be stories of that nature. The author was quite upset and wanted to share it.
I passed on buying the book, and when I went back a few days later couldn't find it.
No doubt that Ted will be dead for years, but his staffers will stuff his body under his desk (and I'm sure they have a very large desk just for that) and do their best to keep the legacy going because their jobs depend on it.

"As Ted Kennedy said to Mary Jo, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it." --- Tom Alciere
My favorite quote regarding Deady, er... Teddy:
"I see Senator Kennedy has changed his position on offshore drilling."
-- Former Sen. Howell Heflin (D-AL), after seeing a National Enquirer photo of Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) on top of a woman in a boat.

Oh, a political opponent had a stroke? What's an appropriate thing to say? Oh, I know! " The End of Ted Kennedy? We can only hope!" Then maybe I'll add something clever like "Nuke the democrats, because wishing death on another human being for having differing opinions is a totally sane, ordinary thing to do.
