Gravatar Bravo Digby.

Getting down in the sewer with the likes of Rush Limbaugh, et al makes Laura Bush an integral part of this filthy, unAmerican group that's desecrating the White House, the Congress and the federal courts.

I've got a few years and a few elections (since 194 on me. I can't remember a first lady being utilized in this manner.

No sign of decency or civility from any of them.

Despicable.

Gravatar Laura Bush looks like The Joker

Gravatar Digby, you haven't followed the first lady very closely, have you. She is without heart, just like the rest of them.

Gravatar Digby, no offense meant, but this prozac laced woman has been preaching the party line for weeks now. I agree with you 100%, but just thought you would have something more timely on election eve.

Gravatar "I always feel a little bit sorry for Republican wives (except Lynn Cheney...)"

You forget Babs Bush, the woman who impressed Nixon with her capacity for hatred.

Gravatar Thank you for that. I watched her lips move and form the words and I knew there was something wrong there. I just couldn't articulate it: you did.

Gravatar Laura Bush has got no class, only a cold heartless soul.

Gravatar I don't move in Laura Bush's social
circles, to say the least. But if
someone let me in by mistake, just
one time, it sure would be fun to
say to her, "You know, Mrs. Bush,
you would have made a wonderful mafia-
wife. But then, you have, haven't
you?" I don't know that I would have
the actual nerve to say that. I just
think about how fun it would be to
say.

Gravatar Although I'm predisposed to be fond of librarians, I could never understand why so many people set Laura Bush on a pedestal. The media lavish praise on her ("the most popular campaigner on the Republican circuit"), but when she's not being unutterably bland, she is paraphrasing Rovian talking points.

Until lately. With Bush&Co. getting backed up to the wall, she went on the attack . . . in that sugary "Bless your heart" Southern fashion. Now, pushed to the corner, her teeth are bared.

Such as they are. Women who lick Bushie's boots have a soul-deep problem that no amount of therapy/drugs can cure. I believe the scientific term is "Submissively Abysmal Taste."

Gravatar I can only agree with my fellow commenters... Laura Bush lost her soul long ago and deserves absolutely no sympathy. Politics, especially Republican style politics, makes whores of them all... even nice librarian ladies. Yes, compared to Lynn Cheney, she at least SEEMS nice... but in the same way the men in The Thing seemed to be their normal human selves.

Gravatar Not to be mean, didn't she kill (accidentally) a fully realized human being once? Now she is crying for blastocysts? Yeah, there's no hypocrisy there, huh? Move along, move along...

Gravatar
They don't have the character to deal with it and they don't care about curing it.

There are a few diseases which I have seen which can break those *around* the ill person even more badly than they do the sufferer.

Alzheimer's is one. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is another. And Parkinson's is a third.

I will note without comment that some researchers think that there are long-term neurological sequelae of early cocaine abuse. Among those is... Parkinson's disease.

I would not wish the burden of caring for a loved one with any of those awful syndromes on anyone. But if I did? I would wish it on Laura Bush.

Gravatar It's called Beautiful Mind Syndrome, or BMS, and it's probably genetic.

It can strike at any age, and progresses rapidly. The green color of US dollars penetrates the victim's palms, causing their blood to turn Mayflower Blue. Their hair becomes a stiff, oversprayed helmet, their eyes can only look down and lose all ability to focus on anything outside their privileged circle. Their fashion sense suffers a steady decline even as their fealty to financial growth and authority in any and all forms becomes absolute. Naturally, this includes the ultimate authority. In the end stage of the disease the victim begins to believe that their opinion on any topic inherently echoes God's plan for mankind.

Here in the Confederate States of America, we see BMS all the time, over at the country club, down at the Chamber of Commerce, and on the steps of any local church on Sunday mornings.

Laura Bush is just more visible, because she's on TV. There are real, living, mouth-breathing examples of Beautiful Mind Syndrome sufferers goose stepping around the South.

I even saw a couple on a trip up to Wisconsin last year . . .

Gravatar Has anyone else ever noticed the uncanny resemblance between Laura Bush and the actress who played Elizabeth Urquhart, wife of the deliciously evil British PM Francis Urquhart in the House of Cards trilogy? Of course, Francis Urquhart ("FU" in the series) was considerably sharper than our Crawford cabbage...

Gravatar "...but [Laura] you're just going to have to face people and explain..."

You said it, Digby.

But Laura's people pretend they shouldn't be expected to actually face people and explain themselves, to honestly present their views and make a credible, persuasive case, and not take the low road to get their way.

Gravatar misleading ad someone got and posted on Flickr - it appears to be looking into the face of a young woman being raped - family values are somehow associated with this - as a comment reads - "Republicans have become a parody of themselves."

Gravatar Offtopic, but my head just exloded. I need to share:

MANAGUA, Nicaragua. Oliver North, the former White House aide at the heart of the Iran-Contra controversy, warned Monday against Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega's possible return to power if he wins Nicaragua's presidential election next month

Oliver Fucking North travels to Nicaragua to tell them who to vote for? What. The. Hell.

Gravatar I've disliked Laurabot ever since she mispronounced Katrina - after her husband's profound incompetence was exposed. Naturally she was defending him.

Laura Bush ain't no Pat Nixon.

Gravatar P.S. You might be interested to know that the city council in M. Fox's home town of Burnaby passed a motion to condemn Limbaugh.

Burnaby council tells Rush to lay off Michael J.

By Wanda Chow
NewsLeader
Nov 02 2006

Burnaby council has decided to write in defence of the city’s “favourite son,” Michael J. Fox.

Hollywood actor and Burnaby native Fox has been in the news for his recent TV commercials campaigning in the current U.S. elections. He has supported the Democrats for their support of stem-cell research, which has been touted as a means towards a cure for Parkinson’s disease, which he suffers from.

“Unfortunately, in so doing he’s incurred the wrath of some of the lunatic fringe down there, in particular one Rush Limbaugh,” said Counsellor Nick Volkow, who made the motion.

Limbaugh, a right-wing talk show host, has criticized Fox and accused him of exaggerating his symptoms of the disease.

Noting that Fox always refers to Burnaby as his hometown in interviews, Volkow proposed writing to the New York Times and CNN, on which Limbaugh has appeared frequently in recent days, expressing the city’s support for Fox. The letter should outline his accomplishments and “his ability to speak out on an issue competently and coherently and that we’re not too keen on the lunatic fringe down in the United States beating up on our favourite son.”

Counsellor Lee Rankin noted that Fox attends a fundraiser in Burnaby every year to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Theatre. He said he was surprised last year at how advanced Fox’s Parkinson’s disease is.

“He’s obviously very stricken by the illness so I was quite distressed to see that that was an object of derision by Rush Limbaugh.”

Mayor Derek Corrigan agreed.
“I think it was just despicable, reprehensible that he would do that,” Corrigan said of Limbaugh. “For someone to be suggesting for even a moment that he’s acting in regard to his symptoms is beyond ridiculous and it’s offensive.”

Without addressing the election issues being dealt with in the U.S., Corrigan said, “We should tell the people in the U.S. what we think of Michael J. Fox and the contribution he makes to our community and how proud we are of him.

“Michael J. Fox has more integrity in his little finger than Rush Limbaugh does in his whole body,” Corrigan added.

“Limbaugh’s behaviour is a disgrace beyond disgusting. He should be ashamed of himself,” said Coun. Garth Evans.

The motion was approved unanimously by council. (Burnaby News Leader

Gravatar She knew that her husband was a well-heeled rotter when she married the son-of-a-bitch. She might not have been aware of the depth of his pathologies, but they were all there, plain to see. She knew goddamned well what she was getting into, but becoming a Bush was more important to her than saving her soul. I am utterly without sympathy for her, and look forward to her having to deal with him when he leaves office, universally reviled, and spends his retirement friendless and deep in the bottle, a mean, stupid drunk with nobody to lash out at except her.

Gravatar Why would you, or anyone, ever feel sorry for Laura Bush or anyone because of who they married? She had a choice, you know.

Do you think W has only recently become an asshole? He's been one all his life, and she knows it. She doesn't care because she's no better. I'm sure she knew exactly what she was getting into with him: money and power. Duh.

Certainly she's been standing by her man his whole political career; you thought she wouldn't be willing to play Rove's game? Why not? She is no better than her husband, though she is probably smarter.

Gravatar Opps, it's Olbermann, with nn's

Gravatar In a time long gone by Laura Bush would have been put down as one of the 'plastic people'. And now she and her husband are desperately trying to keep taking revenge on those who would have then talked so indecorously about some one out of the Texas high monied- aristocracy. Oh my!

Gravatar But I thought Laura Bush's family is among the wealthiest around, more so than the Bushs. She always struck me as being in a state of constant panic, the frozen smile on her mug. If you're looking for compassion and concern about the rabble, please see John Kerry.

Gravatar I keep crossing my fingers and saying "yes!" when I see those covers on The Globe at the supermarket saying how she's planning to divorce George. I read somewhere in a legitimate paper that she spends far less time in Washington than people assume. (But why would that be a story to the MSM.)

For a while, I've assumed that the Bushies have the evidence that she deliberately killed the high school boyfriend. A taped confession or something.

I don't believe in big conspiracies, but I definitely believe in small ones.

Gravatar "I hope for their sakes that all those heartless losers who went after him, including the first lady, who didn't have the class to stay out of the mud, never have to face what he is facing."

You are far too kind. Actually, the only way to get Republican support on issues like these is if they are personally affected. They are completely without empathy.

Gravatar Like Mamma Bush, who makes James Cagney's mother in White Heat look like Mother Teresa, Laura has joined the Bush Family Union of "kill all that critize us".
Like feral beasts they circle to protect thier own.
The Bush Family and their minions are a loathsome group indeed.

Gravatar Digby, I think there's something wrong with The Google.

I couldn't find any quotes of outrage from Laura Bush from when the Reagan administration trotted out Mary Fisher, whom the NYT called "very rich, very Republican and very much infected with the virus that causes AIDS," when they finally decided that AIDS might matter to the GOP base.

I guess Dubya married a let-them-eat Astroturf girl, like the one who married dear old Dad.

Gravatar Amen brother. Have these people ever experienced and felt pain? Or do they just put it down as Gods plan and go on inflicting it on the rest of us?

Gravatar Lynne Cheney is Cerberus's middle head.

Gravatar Don't blame Laura she has to have been the original model for THE STEPFORD WIFE...and, member, she doubtless believes that Michael is no longer a "perfect littler person" cause he has a "disease"...someone to be manipulated and pitied as the fundies love to do...I used to believe this woman had a brain because she was educated AND a librarian...apparently she does very selective reading. SAD LADY...

Gravatar Of course the Republicans care about living, breathing people. Like Terri Schiavo. All those Democrats who manipulate Terri Schiavo for political gain should be ashamed of themselves.

But seriously. I thoroughly expect my mom to vote Repugnantan today, but there was nothing, but nothing that made her so sick with anger than the Terri Schiavo debacle.

Gravatar Here's an image of Laura Bush I'll never forget:

Shortly after the 2004 election when Commander Cuckoo and world leaders had gathered in the Vatican for the pope's funeral, Miss Laura, decked out in black, including veil, kissed that creep on the lips before god and the world.

Ewwwwww......

And I thought at the time: Power...a great aphrodisiac.

Here's a link:

Gravatar Laura Bush is a Stepford Wife

Gravatar This may be a truly mean-spirited thing to say, but Laura DESERVES George.

Gravatar I never thought Laura Bush was all that worthy of any special level of respect.

Seriously, she's a poor judge of character. She has surrounded herself with people of very dubious charater and known liars. What's to respect about that?

Gravatar She killed a man, you know.

Gravatar DITTO.

"All of us know someone who is touched by breast cancer. With this disease affecting one in nine women, it is hard not to know someone. For me, breast cancer hit close to home when my mother, Jenna Welch, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 78. My mother is fortunate - she had surgery and has been cancer free for five years."

Gravatar You guys are living in the past.

Neither side is going to get a pass any more when they trot out victims, celebrity or otherwise, to affect elections.

Ah, brave little Michael J. Fox! So little and yet so brave to stand up to the big bad Republican noise machine and the religious right and the moral majority and the Christian Coalition and the vast right-wing conspiracy and the mega-churches. Bravo! Anyone who agrees with the editorial page of the New York Times is brave and full of guts.

Actually, the first lady is correct. The Michael J. Fox ad WAS manipulative. LEAVING OUT the word "embryonic" was a critical ommission and was done on purpose.

I realize you all would prefer Tipper Gore or Teresa Heinz Kerry as the first lady. What ever happened to Teresa Heinz Kerry? Did she change her name and fall off the earth? Not exactly. She just gave some scientist $250,00 for saying the earth is warming. Try getting a "grant" like that if you argue the other way.

In my mind, James Webb is a good man and a qualified candidate. I also think Harold Ford Jr. is a good man and a qualified candidate. But Claire McCaskill? What a piece of work. I hope she loses.

Gravatar Pickles is but a drawling, idiotic, Texas drone. She is a cipher...a hair-dyed ding-a-ling. On the positive side, she does have nice tits.

Gravatar When Laura was first taken to meet Bar, Bar asked her "And what do you do?"

Laura told her "I read, I smoke, I observe."

I despise her thoroughly, but she is no dummy. What she observed in Dubya was a perfect opportunity to be left in peace to read, to smoke and to observe.

So she made her Faustian bargain and she is living with the consequences.

Feel sorry for her? I don't even feel sorry for the twins, who will end up suicides or overdoses.

As worthless as their parents.

There is nothing bad enough that could happen to any member of the Bush or Cheney family that I would feel sad about.

Gravatar WWJD

I wonder if Jesus was feeling manipulated when he did that leper healing thing. And of course there's always the 9th commandment about bearing false witness. Great Christians and bible conscious folks those Bushes or do all sins get remitted if they are committed during a political campaign. Must be a signing statement that applies to this somewhere.

Gravatar She also raised two brat twins, don't forget that. Laura and George's parenting skill are just a minimal as his governing skills.

Also want to shout-out to Anderson Cooper and CNN who showed a one-hour interview with Fox. He got some good hits in against Rush, like "this isn't about a radio show."

Class, obvious class there.
