I live in Kenya and while i did not support either candidate because I am an american I can safely assure all readers that kenya will never be under Sharia law here. The document was manufactured by Kubaki to cause fear of sharia law - it has no basis in fact. Raila would never have signed it.
The poor people that lost there lives are the victims of riots caused by the unrest in turn, caused by a rigged election and you can not suggest that Raila Odinga instigated the violence.

Daniel, the fact that Odinga is a Christian does not nullify the possibility of the story. It seems very possible that Odinga, even though he is a Christian, was trying to use his agreement to concessions as a way to gain Muslim votes in the then upcoming election. It seems a little bit ridiculous to slam this story as utterly and patently false. I do not think that such an agreement is so inherently impossible.
That said, I do not believe that the political violence in Kenya was in any way caused by Islamists. it was caused because of political rivalries and tribal rivalries. I do think it is wise to ask Obama about his relationship with Odinga related to the possibility of this memorandum of understanding. However, some other blogs (not yours) seems to believe that this shows that Obama is a Muslim "Manchurian candidate" and will try to enforce sharia and the United States. That's utterly ridiculous, and is an extreme version of guilt by association. Sometimes a little perspective is necessary.

This story circulated through the kenyan press about a year ago and it was shown to be a farse then. The religous organizations that have addressed it have done so simply to assure kenya that they have no intention of imposing sharia on kenya (a country that is 90 percent non muslim).
The only place this story still may have resonance is with the far christian right and those readers like marcel who are clearly educationally stunted. They will follow the story not unlike the bush administration followed the nigerian yellow cake uranium story after that story had also been shown as a falsity. They will do so because they are totalitarians who can not accept other faiths and belief systems. Ironic, that they resemble their enemies in radical islam so closely in this way.

The stakes in the battle for Kenya are much greater than most realize. If the free world loses Kenya to the relentless expansionism of Islamism, soon after the heart of Africa will also go the way of Kenya's neighbors: Sudan and Somalia.
An article in the Los Angeles Times, 1/12/08 “Dark Days in Kenya...” included some facts of why Kenya is a vital country:

“The country's ports also serve as conduits for commerce and aid across East Africa. World Food Program shipments destined for neighboring Somalia start in Mombasa.
“Nearly all of Kenya's neighbors rely on its ports, highways and logistics networks for deliveries of goods and access to international markets. Last week, the turmoil in Kenya temporarily drove up gasoline prices in Uganda by 200% because oil trucks were unable to complete their usual trek from the Kenyan coast.
“The U.S. has come to view Kenya as a key partner in its anti-terrorism programs in the Horn of Africa...[it] receives about $1 billion a year in aid from Washington, has worked closely with U.S. intelligence agencies to develop an anti-terrorism police unit that attempts to block extremists, particularly from Somalia, from spreading through East Africa.”
Therefore, should Kenya become a Muslim state by force or secret “Memorandums,” Ethiopia, another ally of the West will become nearly surrounded and subject to an Islamic stranglehold. The resource rich center of black Africa will become easy prey for Muslim predators. Recently China and other resource hungry nations have been forming agreements to explore and export oil off the coast of Kenya and in neighboring countries. An Islamist takeover would eventually funnel those profits back to Arab and Islamist armies for further expansionism.
According to the no-longer secret “Memorandum of Understanding” signed by opposition leader Odinga, within six months of his taking office he agrees to recognize Sharia as the “only” law in the key coastal regions of Kenya, including its port city, Mombasa. Within one year, all of Kenya's divisions must recognize Sharia as its only law. From that point on, 80% of Kenya's population, now Christian, will be staring into the heart of darkness and the end of their brief experience with freedom.
In terms of importance, Kenya is similar in value to the Persian Gulf, with its port at Mombasa as important as the Strait of Hormuz. If Mombasa falls, or is given away by Odinga to Muslims, the Muslims will then have both hands around the neck of most of Eastern Africa and will have control over everything entering and leaving. Ethiopia, a landlocked country now allied with the West, will become easily controlled and its policies overthrown, opening it up to Somalia-like disintegration and eventual Islamic warlordism.
