For many years, municipal elections in El Paso were non-partisan. I can recall at least two "nominal" Republican mayors back in the 1960s-70s when I was growing up there. That said, no GOPer would have a chance now that the Mexicans have pretty much taken over the town.

Looks like a lot of republican states there. I guess there isn't such a thing as a compassionate conservative, especially toward elderly people. Sad.
