Wow, great and timely post. Having just returned stateside myself, I have seen the ads in question and loudly uttered 'WTF?' As someone who identifies as equal parts feminist and vegan, it's hard to say which part of me is more offended by both these spots. Glad you wrote this so I didn't have to get off the couch 
. I wonder if BK and TGIF will learn the hard way what Yorkie (it's not for girls, remember?) did: When you insult women, half your customers mysteriously disappear. Spooky!
Good call on Carol J. Adams- another interesting tangent from this subject is PETA's use of sexist (and racist) imagery and how they (unsuccessfully) try to re-contextualize sexuality with vegetables, and not meat. But that's a whole 'nother blog in itself.
So that's why I can never get any jars open.

You really should read The Sexual Politics of Meat. And i think its deceiving to look at it merely as the sexual politics, cuz she touches a lot on the racial politics as well (tho not as much so).

erika - persynally i liked PETA's 'vegetarians make better lovers' campaign where they had nearly naked White straight couple making out on sidewalks. Win one for the cause, PETA! But sometimes i feel like i write too much shit about PETA. Its shitty that they are what people think of when they think of veggie living. They sure as hell don't represent me. I'm tired of their 'sex sells' bullshit. Genocide sells too, but i don't see them shooting ads in Darfur talking about how the Tunjur people are so great because they can't afford to eat meat. Eh, don't get me started.
