Even in religious terms, praying makes no sense. God is supposed to be omniscient, right? So he already knows what you want and whether you deserve to get it. What difference is asking for it supposed to make?

This sounds like a set-up for an endless series of nitpicking sessions about whether or not this-or-that thing you're doing is quite good enough to deserve the promised reward.
At least you took quick action on the wallet thing. That should at least minimize the harm -- which is more than you can say for praying.
