Haha, I still have that CD somewhere in my collection. Man, I made some poor choices as a youth.

To me his releases were pretty solid. Some classic material on there too. And he definitaly not suck!
Everyone got there own opinion but please don't compare Mad Lion to Shaggy or Snow!
PS: His music is different to other Reggae/Hip-Hop-fusions so his own description - HipHop Reggae - makes sense to me

i concur with e on that.
Safe Sex No Freaks was not, however.
If you're gonna pick on anyone from that "genre", pick on Whitey Don.

also I would like to add, at my own risk, that while soft, Snow's remix of "anything for you" with beenie man, terror fabulous, nadine sutherland et al was kind of hot.

It would take a Canadian to whip out a reference to some obscure Snow b-side and/or album cut (Actually, any song that's not "Informer" is an obscure Snow cut).

dude, Buju was also on that shit and there was a video for it that got played at least once at 4 AM. In mid-90's canada that's pop breakthrough for dancehall or whatever you want to call that, boo hiss "obscure". the only other vid that got shine was shinehead "gimme no crack" or whatever and shabba's "trailer load a girls".
I'm gonna up it on razor pending me finding it a share, fuck yall.
did you hear that shabba got straight-bashed by the Xiu Xiu dude outside a falafel joint in SF in 97?

serg - i got respect for your crunk game - but stick to that, homie.
mad lion was one of a handful of new york based reggae/dancehall artists that came out in the mid-90's to take advantage of shabba ranks' crossover to pop prominence (see also Mikey Jarrett, Shaggy, Lil Vicious). 'Take it Easy' is a classic hiphop reggae track up there with 'ghetto red hot' and 'freaks'. granted - the majority of his album was, in your phrasing, 'weaksauce' - but TIE is still a dancehall banger.
for the record, Snow's "Anything for You" was a bigger dancehall record than that weak crossover bullshit 'Informer' - you'll still hear AFY on classic dancehall mix cds
