kickass post junior. funny enough, i was just rocking 'a cry for my people' (also recommended) at home last night so i'm pretty pysched to have some more schepp for the morning. thanks.

Gravatar This site drops more knowlede on the regular than anything else. Great work, duns.

Gravatar tops tuff

cheers!

Gravatar Great post. For anyone interested, I also highly recommend checking out the album Blase by Archie Shepp as well. The title track is an absolute stunner and it also contains a gorgeous version of "There Is A Balm In Gilead." It's a little harder to come by but is absolutely amazing, just like Attica Blues. Worth the hunt.

Gravatar Echoing comments above, this site is excellent, amazing stuff on a regular basis - only problem is you make my crates seem so paltry in comparison
I dont get the chance to namedrop either, so I gotta do it here: I used to sell fish to this cat, when he taught at UMass Amherst!!

Again, much thanks for all the amazing songs you have reminded me of, provided me with a digital copy of or in most of the cases, alerted me to the fact they were out there in the first place!!

Gravatar I tried to get this album from the library recently, but they had lost it. Doesn't sound anything like what I was expecting (I was thinking maybe Coltrane playing with Payback-era James Brown), but it's pretty great. Intense, for sure. Lester Bangs hates this album...but what the fuck did he know?

Gravatar Shows that even Lester Bangs got it wrong sometimes.

Hey anyathar, run this past me again - you used to sell Archie his fish?

Gravatar Excellent! Who's singing? Henry Hull or John Lee Wilson or Waheeda Massey?

Gravatar I'm fairly certain the great Joshie (Jo) Armstead is rocking vocals on the title track. I love that freakin' song!

Gravatar hotness

Gravatar Yeah i believe, though don't quote me on this, that it's Henry Hull, Jo Armstead and Albertine Robinson.
