Gravatar Brazilians make damn near the best funky, drugged up rock and soul Ive heard.Im gonna check for Gal Costa. Kevin, your crates are superlative, my brotha!Billy Joel and the Hassles???!Thanx 4 keepin it funky! Oh yeah De lA Soul used that record am I right?

Gravatar Hey Chronwell:

I definitely agree with your assessment on Brazilian's making the best "drugged up rock and soul". There are a bunch of talented people within the Tropicalia movement including Tom Ze, Caetano Veloso, Os Mutantes and Baiano E Os Novos Caetanos. All of these artists are highly recommended if you dig the Gal Costa, especially Os Mutantes.

As far as the guess on the sample, you are on the right track. After several days, I will post the answers to the sample questions. So make sure to stop by to check that out.

Thanks for commenting!

Cheers, Kevin

Gravatar Great stuff Kevin, big fan of Gal Costa.

Though I'm familiar with the sampling tune I'd never heard the Billy Joel original before - absolutely love it.

Gravatar Junior,

I'm glad you are digging these tunes. What's it going to take for us to get some more interaction with the visitors here on Ear Fuzz?

I figured for sure that this one would get the people talking.

Cheers, Kevin

Gravatar Well, I'm a little disappointed that there hasn't been very much feedback on this post. I did promise to reveal the answers to the two songs that contained samples, but I had hoped that it would get you guys engaged in more conversation.

Anyway, the Ballin' Jack "Found a Child" features a funky guitar break that was sampled in Young MC's "Bust a Move" in 1989. The Billy Joel and the Hassles "4 O'Clock in the Morning" was used as a sample on KMD's song "Question Mark" taken from the 2001 album "Black Bastards". An interesting tidbit about this album is that it was originally scheduled to be released in 1994, but it was shelved because of its controversial album cover featuring a cartoonish black sambo hanging from a gallows.

Gravatar Kevin,

Great posts, as ever. Temek is a tune and a half. G'wan Ersen! I was going to comment that you should check out Puskullu Moruk by Cem Karaca and Kardaslar, but figure from the post that you've already done it.

Keep up the good work!

D

Gravatar Ah, KMD Black Bastards! Yeah dont remember the song but Im gonna pull it outta the crates tonight. And also Im gonna check some Os Mutantes out, Ive always heard the name and liked the sound of it!Thanx 4 keepin it funky!
