Whether running toward via Couglin's mad videos or being reluctantly pushed there via Beck's mad "On The Road" graphics, the medium may not in either case be the red meat of the message. Radio then, cable now are facisnating pastimes for a new leisure class with too much time on their hands. This may change with the looming depression putting an end to all that as we possibly go back to pre-labor union rights working hours. As Letterman said when recently interviewing Bill O'Reilly, all these guys are too smart to really believe their own hooey.

Nah, if there's a "depression" coming on, the overall populace will probably have MORE leisure time on their hands: http://libertyunbound.com/articl...icle.php?

I'm not sure if waiting in soup or job lines counts as a leisurly activity, although there will probably be a high number with facebook or twitter apps on their mobiles, if not the service to support them.

The article notes that it was generally more leisure activity for the people that had jobs or moderate wealth. There's no denying it was hard for alot of people but the point is that the average middle class person could potentially end up living less excessively and working less excessively.
