Does anybody else try to bundle their nerd purchases with non-nerdy items? In this case, the gaming magazine isn't so bad. You could go with a magazine on cooking or a newspaper, as if to say, "Sure, I may be a little nerdy, but I have many diverse interests that preclude me from sitting in my mother's basement with cheeto-encrusted fingers playing the latest video game to the exclusion of all normal social activites. In fact, I'm really quite charming. And handsome."
I'm sure it works just like that.
Of course, if you're buying the latest d20 source book, not much is going to save you. That's why they invented Amazon.

Personally in that situation you should have told the girl behind the counter you were trying to find a way to connect with some of your co-workers...because everytime you try to talk to them about snowboarding or football...they give you a stupid look and go back to a gaming conversation...lol.

Be proud of your geekiness! I know a fair few hot geeky girls, and several not so geeky ones who love nerds. If she can't take your geeky taste in magazines then it's never going to work out anyway.

There is nothing wrong with embracing your inner nerd. Yes, video game mags aren't the most attractive bits of literature. But why not have a little story to go along with your nerdpurchase. Make up a little bit that you can incorporate flirt tactics into. If you seem friendly, fun, and are talking to her emotions, she could care less about nerdy content of your purchase. cheers mate

Here is a novel idea -- be proud of who you are and don't sweat the small stuff. So what if she saw that you're a computer geek who likes to play video games. She probably rings up a few hundred customers a day and doesn't give it a second thought.
You, meanwhile, are sweating and nervously shaking as you hand her the magazine in fear. With trembling hands, you accept your change and walk meakly out of the bookstore assuming the world has come to an end because some random girl found out you need some cheat codes for a game.
God forbid if a woman ever actually LIKED geeks. That's a scary thought.
