The interesting thing here is that the feds are heading towards a record surplus as well and it has nothing to do with oil revenue.

The troubling fiscal imbalance might also be an astonishing succession of incompetent, over taxing, Ontario governments...Just a thought.

Jay: 10 billion projected surplus this year plus 7 billion squirrelled away in foundations. There's most of the imbalance right there. I hope the Liba and NDP aren't stupid enough to tax natural gas exports, which make up the bulk of Alberta's surplus.

Okay, this is my third and final (tenative) comment. I'm still choked. I doubt Harper will say much about it for fear of being associated with Western Spearatists, which could alienate his much sought-after Ontario/East Coast voeter base.

Still he has to stand for proper fed/prov jurisdiction. That resource cash belongs to Albertans (yes,and it is because a bunch of Ontarians drew the border as such prior to the discovery of oil) but a deal's a deal. If Ontarians want in on that surplus all they have to do is move to Alberta. It really is the best place on the planet.

The taxation of natural gas exports by the feds would be the death knell of federalism. Jack Layton can sod right the hell off. The oil companies in Alberta may be American owned, but you don't see many Canadians buying into these companies.

Still choked. And I'm not even a separatist. Imagine how those guys are reacting.

Proportionally speaking. America is where the cash is so it would make sense that most O & G stocks are American owned. But I'm not completely certain.
