It has often seemed extremely shortsighyted of our government to attempt to eliminate passenger trains. It has always seemed like trying to force people to use cars. It does not seem like such a far stretch to when rail will be very competitive with cars. After spending a youthful summer traveling Europe on a Eurail pass, it disgusts me to see the straits of American rail, begging for crumbs to operate.
