Sounds more like Santa Barbara--or Santa Cruz--than Berkeley. On the other hand, even smart people can be astonishingly stupid.

I don't recall this particular sport from Sproul Hall -- was this a Ridge Project thing? I think some of the people we went to Berkeley with back then might not get in today. Hell, I'm not at all sure *I*'d get in today.
I think we came through Berkeley pretty near the apex of drug (and possibly alcohol) abuse there. One does wonder what became of some of those people...
