The linguistic echo is funny, though. Naturally, I didn't have to go below the fold for it.
I was thinking about your hypothesis just today, and before our latest blogwar: it occurred to me that just because an intelligence might (hypothetically) be involved, that doesn't mean it was a particularly bright intelligence.
That is, how do you know that the human brain wasn't simply put together by Supreme Absent-Minded (but Well-Meaning) English Major? Your whole thrust assumes that a master Engineer must have an Engineering mindset.
I think it's possible that there was a master intelligence, but its own Mind was a kludge.

BTW, if you really existed, your book would be well-written enough that it could defy, intrinsically, the lifting of your ideas.
I have therefore decided that you don't exist--rather, that your book began out of some primordial sawdust, and more or less wrote itself.
Though I think it took awhile. Probably.
