This was a great episode. I was particularly interested in the relationship between our large brains and the inability for the female to be able to bring up a child on her own, thus the requirement for pair bonding; known as marriage today.
I guess ‘love’, with all its irrationality, is the evolved ‘glue’ that holds that bond together? It would be interesting to know which requirement lead the evolutionary process. Did the natural emergence of the large brain (and its associated intellect) require love, or did the emergence of love allow intellect?
The romantic in me would prefer the latter, but I assume the former?
DJ is now in this area and I have met him at a talk he gave shortly after this episode aired. I loved this interview and told him he should have more neuroscientists on. I wish it had been longer, and I think you should be on again Dr Linden, I feel like the conversation was just getting good when he ended it, lol.
