Social disapproval, usually due to (1) in the case of sex, the fact that a single mistake can/could alter the course of someone's entire life; (2) the fact that all those activities can become compulsive habits. They are addictive. Including, of course, those little mouse-shit peppers, which we've been meaning to talk to you about. (Your wife and I are organizing an intervention.)
But forbidden fruit is sweet fruit (they tell me). And there are places where people go specifically to engage in vices--such as Las Vegas, Cuba, and the Far East.
Food is not perceived to be a vice in the same way that other things are--partly because one cannot avoid eating, and partly because overeating doesn't affect society in ways that are direct and immediate.
