Since when does it take a british army officer to notice these debilitating weaknesses of the best-funded army on earth?
No offense to the British meant here: they got much better marks for their handling of the natives in the arguably touchier Shiite Basra districts than did Tommy Franks crew. Is this item only news because it wasn't some better informed US liberal "traitor" saying what needed saying?

For the Post, I think the news is that the piece was published by the US Army at the Ft. Leavenworth facility (which calls itself the Army's "intellectual center").

Actually this is an older article which was reprinted recently in the Military Review Magazine.
Worth pointing out here that there is a very big difference in US and UK military doctrine. The UK spends much more time training for COIN and Peacekeeping missions while the Americans concentrate on much more straight forward fighting. If you read the document carefully it is not as scathing as it looks and these kind of articles appear often. Personally I find it hard to disagree with anything I read.
