I don't understand why you are not much of a fan of socio-biology?
Certainly mistakes have been made. Yet it seem incontrovertable that social organization is at least influenced by biology.
For instance it seems obvious that politics is ruled by the alpha male thing even if some of the alpha males are women.
The genius of democracy is that it allows us to do the alpha male thing with a very limited amount of violence.
Just look at the political rhetoric near election time. The fear and hysteria should the other side win. Which seems to hearken back to a time when the alpha male killed the offsping of the previous alpha male and killed or exiled his major opponents.
In civil societies the fears are rarely justified. In tribal societies they are the norm.

I see two items.
One. Straight line projections of single variable are seldom born out. The existence of the the surplus will most likely produce some sort of counter trend which will move to make a demographic change. But:
A. Will this change make the problem worse? Most likely it will be correcting but not necessarily.
B. Will the trend be something that is worse than the problem.
Those we can only wait and see, unless. . .
Second. The governments perceive it to be a problem and take action on their own to correct it. The perception of the problem does not have to agree with the actual facts.
The most positive thing the governments could do is reverse the administrative polices that mandate small families. I am sure that most south Asians realize they need girls to have wives for the boys. If larger families were allowed much of the pressure for sex selection would disappear.
Much less acceptable policies would be:
A. A totalitarian and demicidal elimination of the extra males.
B. The use of the “surplus males” as slave labor. Or an easysource of conscrtipts.
C. Stealing, by bribery or force, women from neighboring counties.
The existence of the female deficit does create problems in itself, but the biggest problem is most likely what governments decide to do about it. Other than eliminating pressures that are aggravating the problem, governmental action to solve the problem are likely to be worse that problem, which will most likly correct itself over time without government intervention.

I blogged a little about the subject a little over a year ago.
I have to say that looking back at my old blog posts is a bit embarrassing: many of them are a lot more detailed and informative than what I've done lately. Well, I imagine I'll be back in form when I finish my book .
Great points, Hank. Thanks.

Is there no up side to this shortage, such as more value will be placed on women because of the shortage; or is their perceived status so low that the only anticipated outcome is that the women that are available will be forced into early marriage?
