Couldn't agree more. In fact, in the Ethics seminar I'm currently teaching our discussions remain visibly anchored by the very idea that we must explore the contexts in which our ideals are nurtured, or perhaps embedded might be more precise, to get over the notion underlying most of the discourse around development (even intervention at times) that the "brown people must be saved from themselves". Long story short, nothing in the world is that simple...or transcendentally universal enough to be an application of values that we all hold to be true and self-evident. |

When speaking of my rolodex I am, of course, speaking metaphorically. But some of my colleagues, especially those who specialize in having contacts downtown, appear to actually have such things sitting on their desks. I'm not sure where I would put one, between the various pieces of computer equipment and the Star Wars paraphernalia . . . |
