What I find especially ironic about this story is the American response to this arrest, requesting a " just trial " for Okruashvili. If Putin did something like this, Western political elites would be gleefully trumpeting the triumph of fascism in Russia. And even though this happened in a country where opposition members are routinely killed (most recently in May: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2...ker-Killed.php) , this kind of blatant political machination does not even merit a condemnation from the US. I think that it is evident that unconditional US support of Georgia is directly contributing to the kind of unrestrained and dangerous actions that Georgia has been taking. The recent shelling of Tskhinvali by Georgian forces is another alarming development that further demonstrates that the US needs to reign in Georgia before the region erupts into open conflict.
