I see Russophobia is alive and well just under the surface in the Neo-Con mind. Nothing is as delicious as having a scary enemy (or, as Poulos suggests, as creating (or re-creating) one).
The idea that Saakashvili may have royally screwed the pooch here is "moral relativism" -- yeah, sure, whatever you want to think. Everything is painted only in Black and White in their world.

That Wapo editorial was co-authored by Richard Holbrooke, foreign policy advisor to Obama. The problem runs far deeper than the neo-cons...

sdf (STU):
I'm more amazed at the idea that being critical of the shelling of a town full of civilians is equivalent to 'moral relativism'. I don't think I want to live in the moral universe of neo-conservatives if this is what passes for logic in their world.

The fact that Holbrooke and Bildt see a challenge might indicate that Russo-phobia and neo-con hysteria are not the only reasons to be disturbed here.
Russia has made no effort to de-escalate this crisis or restrain their Ossetian clients.
It was risky, and, as it turns out, wrong for Georgia to launch the 7 Aug. offensive, but only because the Russian response was not to force the Ossetians to bargain in line with Saakashvili's earlier 7 Aug. proposal, but instead to attack Georgia.
