"...we part with tender relations stretching far behind us, that never can be exactly renewed..."

Gravatar There's a lot of truth in that. I myself learn better by touch and seeing, rather than inside the classroom looking at a blackboard with figures and numbers...

I'm participating on June 14th in International Weblogger's Day. Are you?

Gravatar I'm going to make a T-Shirt with that quote on it! Excellent!

Gravatar Yeah, I like that one. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Take Care. ;8^)

Gravatar Thanks for commenting. What I like about her statement is that it illustrates that learning is not always necessarily a result of teaching. It is a result of being actively involved with a subject.

Gravatar Sounds like that kid has been reading Illich's Deschooling Society. I think, however, it's a great quote and highlights that there are multiple ways of doing things, it is important to consider the role of place (physically and socially) in our pedagogy, and that the structured educational system is less focused on teaching than on child programming. IMHO.

Good find!

Gravatar BTW - I am in the process of working with one of my faculty on a Place Based Education clearinghouse website that will focus on ways that teachers connect their pedagogy with place. The site is (sort of) up and is in progress at http://placebaseded.net

Gravatar Looks good. It's encouraging to see how the web has made it easier to have this kind of discussion. Conceptually speaking, Placed Based Education would be compatable if not similar to Project-Based & Authentic Learning. Students are engaged in asking questions, discussing and debating ideas, designing and implementing projects, and creating worthwhile and significant work.
