"...we part with tender relations stretching far behind us, that never can be exactly renewed..."

Gravatar Thank you for your post. Still no word on my son. I am hoping to hear something from him soon. They are still getting word of the parishes that have yet to get any aid of any type. It is tragic. My sons parish is now being evacuated due to gas leaks and looting. I hope he is here with me soon.

Gravatar What has happened because of this storm is beyond comprehension and its effects will be felt for some time to come. I hope your son is o.k. and that he makes it safely home to you.

Gravatar Scot,
What a thoughtful statement about such a sad event. Thank you for what must have taken some time to write. I can't help but think our country is coming of age before our eyes with all that has happened since the year 2000.

We are being changed.

Gravatar Liz,
"...coming of age before our eyes with all that has happened since the year 2000." Hmmm? Excellent sentiment and observation. I agree that events as of lately seem to be of a magnitude beyond what has normally been experienced. During my childhood, the big event was the blackout of '65 when the entire eastern seaboard was pitched in total darkness for six hours. How that event now looks so insignificant compared to the Ice Storm, 9/11, the tsunami of Indonesia, and now Katrina. Does give much to contemplate, doesn't it. Thanks for responding. . .

Gravatar there are 15k in the Astrodome, 5k in the Reliant hall and 8500 in the George R. Brown Center. there are over 22,000 in churches and private shelters. Houston School sare open to all LA residents, Job fairs start monday. We are open for all who want us.

Gravatar Texas, and especially Houston, should be applauded for the leadership role they have taken by helping with the evacuation, and by providing facilities for the evacuees. It is good to see that other states and communities are beginning to do the same. Thanks for visiting and responding.

Gravatar What I like about this post is that it is free from the typical conspiracy theories the left is pushing. Some have found it in them to politicize this sad event. What they assume to be evidence is not the whole picture. I have commented too on my blog about Sheehan and the historical city of N.O. Hope they pull through.

Gravatar All the prayers to the families affected and may god bless all.

Gravatar Thank you Commentator and Gp for reading and responding. It is disturbing that an event as castastropic as Katrina would be politicized. Such behavior is clearly counterproductive.
