"...we part with tender relations stretching far behind us, that never can be exactly renewed..."

Gravatar Wow, Scot.
You do it every time. Right there in the zone. I feel like I'm in the zone with you. It has something to do with your writing voice, your tone, your perfect use of detail-gosh I love how you use detail with out self-consciousness.

Thanks for the tribute.
It's to all of humanity.

Gravatar Thank you, Liz:

I appreciate your readership, but more than that, your thoughtful, encouraging remarks.

From one writer to another, I give high value to what you say.

Gravatar Hi Scot,
First, I have to say that as soon as I read 'clam basket' I checked where you're from. It had to be up there on the northern eastern shore. When I was touring around Nova Scotia, all I had were clam baskets from chip trucks.

But that was just an aside to a beautifully written post. The way you shared your own reflections and marveled the life around you as a way to commemorate the victims of both tragedies was both sad and uplifting. But most of all is was unique. Unique to you.
You took us along in your journey with a fine descriptive language and because I made the whole journey with you, then in the end I prayed with you.

Gravatar Hi Scott,
For a moment there I thought that you had comments turned off. I had to enable some stuff on my browser to get them to work. What a great post. I too wanted to comment on the clam basket as it jumped out at me, I used to live down east and we actually had something called shrimp burgers, which were great with cole slaw on them-as was the BBQ. Next I just wanted to say what a lovely post this was. It was like reading a book almost in that I felt as though I had been on a journey. I can so relate to your thought that everything in life can change in an instant. I have had a couple of times that has happened in my life and I think they were times of great spiritual growth. I am envious of your bit of Fall weather that you are having, it normally would be beautiful here this time of year, the humidity drops but you have clear blue skies and warm temps. This year I am afraid that we had an early summer and now the summer seems to be extending into the Fall. It has been up around ninety still and the humidity is terrible. I can't complain though, as I will be upset about the cold and snow shortly. Thanks for sharing.

Gravatar "we also live our lives just beyond the horizon"

Wise words. And the whole piece is wise and well considered. More power to your arm, sir.
