Liked your grown-up son story; sounds like you miss him. Luke always tells me, You're so weird. I take it as a compliment.

Oh Scot,
What a week this must have been! You move through this piece like a train leaving the station chugging along racing for home and as you get close you switch to steam power taking in all of the glory and the color. Then thoughts turn to your son and your heart beats warm and slow with laughter despite the dropping temperatures. Your cat doesn't mind. The cat and squirrels have seen this before.
Home and a week to relight the fuses.
God bless you for giving those boys so much of yourself.
Love,
Liz

It is precisely those terms of endearment that our children use that makes us smile when we recall them. My son's expression to me when I had confused moments was, "Dad, you retard." Thanks for stopping by . . .

I'll probably be over your way in a little bit, but, gee, thanks for coming my way first and leaving such an enthusiastic response. You are very kind, insightful and generous in your remarks. In the spirit of friendship . . .

Scot- No matter what you write about, I get the sense you are in your skin, and comfortable there.
Hwy 52 was the right choice it seems. It's so important to take the scenic route as often as possible, to balance the inevitable buildup of stress at work, especially work like yours which is mostly giving.

I was wondering when we'd get news of your son. Good to hear he's doing well and actually enjoying his training, but I can't believe your sense of humour. Twisted indeed I'm still laughing.
I can't imagine how emotionally taxing your work is. Must be hard dealing with this on a daily basis, yet I'm sure there are rewarding elements as you mentioned.
Well, I read your piece in one breath and now when I think about it and comment I see you actually went through many many issues in that post without missing a beat. It wasn't noticeable when I read it, only now while commenting.
I dread the winter too...

Glad to see stop by. Enjoy reading your thoughtful responses. It's been cold and wet today, but your acknowledgement of my son, and the comment you made in your last paragraph warmed me quite a bit. Thanks for that . . .

I am late for this one again. Somehow I really must sort out my schedule, if I can just find the time to do so...
You have a calming and quiet voice, Scot (in your writing, I mean). Each of your posts is an opportunity for me to sit back, forget about all the things that still need doing and just read with enjoyment. It is that clamness that suits you for the work you do and, no doubt, to be father to your son. Oh for the opportunity to have put one like that over my own son, Mad!

Wish your son the best. I remember the time I spent there on my way to the 101ST and the 82ND Airborne in the 1960's. I hope his experience will be better and that he will stay safe and come back the better for it!

The patience and thoughtfulness that is so evident in your posts must be a very healing influence on the young people you work with.
Also sending good wishes to your son.
