I'm not looking forward to the new year. I don't think I'm in a place where I can truly appreciate the opportunity yet. It'd be such a shame to go into 2006 still wishing it was 2005.
It's a good thing we get that leap second this New Year's Day. That may be all the headstart I need.

Mojo,
Sometimes that leap second is all we need. Thanks for coming by. Your comment is appreciated.

Hi Scot,
That was beautifully done. You went from the outside in to the outside to tell the truth on every level of mother nature and human nature--unfortunately mother nature came out the more understandable despite the costs that you describe. But then you end with those lovely lines by Frost about ideas still untried and I walk away with hope. I need that hope for this new year, because even past all you described my personal year was a lousy one. Thank you Scot for that hope.

Liz,
I'm always intrigued when you come by. Your insightful comments that you willingly share gives me a good sense as to the effectiveness of what I have written. Such comments are well-received and valued. I pray that both of us during this coming year will have much to be thankful for.

Joe and I rented "What About Schmidt" this week. You're post reminded me very much of Jack Nicholas' character. If you haven't seen it by now, go get it.
BTW, the weather down here was so spring-like that I opened all my windows and doors and let the cool wind cleanse the air in my house. Jealous?
(I'm bad. I know.)

Afterall, we are only travelers on this planet, each of us embarked on this journey through life together in our continual search for validity and truth. - Love that! and when you write about yr. son, it reminds me of how little time that I really have with mine.
Thanks for yet another feeling and insightful post.

Tanda,
Jealous? You bet. If I opened all my windows, my cat would have icicles hanging off his whiskers. I've seen the movie and loved it, though I'm not sure if understand the comparison. Perhaps I need to see it again. It's been a few years. Anyway, good to see stop by. Thanks for commenting. . .

A thoughtful post, and a responsible one. Much more worldcentric than the kind of thinking I've been doing lately.
It's interesting how time stretches and shrinks differently when our kids are gone, or our relationships change and end. It's a journey that needs eyes wide open...

"Worldcentric," hmmm, I hadn't quite thought of it that way. Thank you for sharing your perspective.

I always loved the introspective parts of your writing. And then comes this post that also shows a deep understanding of the outside.
It's a lovely post, befitting of the new year.
I've been meaning to ask how is your son and if he'd be getting a leave for the holidays, but I guess I know the answer now. But I trust he's well and still likes the army and all?
Happy New Year, Scot

Yes we all need to look INSIDE ourselves, look at our life, take the bad with the good and move forward. We are in this life only one time, and when it is all said and done, it is our works and deeds that remain as our souls move forward.
Inner peace and tranquility are important, but deed are by what we are judged, and deeds are what remain of us when our time is up.
Wishing you inner peace, tranquility, deeds and action, and the wisdom to know what must and should be done.

Euro,
Your visits are always welcomed, especially when you take the time to leave a comment that is both positive and introspective. "It is our works and deeds that remain" after we move on. So true, which is why I think sometimes we spend too much time on things that in the end will only be inconsequential. Better to focus on the things that do matter and are worthwhile. Happy New Year, my friend.

"Today, I find myself being more deliberate about how I spend my time. For instance, not only do I take time to pay attention and observe what I’m feeling at any particular moment, I also take time to pay attention and observe the small things that are going on around me: crows hob-bobbing across the yard, chortling amongst themselves, rain beating against the window, and voices heard out in the hallway. Small things that seem like push pins that hold the sleeves of a new day together. How we unfold and wear it does make all the difference, especially on a day like this when the sky is low and gray."
I love this - well said.
I feel the same way. I find that being in the moment and living mindfully is a wonderful way to live...

Like your BLOG. OK if I stop by once in a while and curl up over here in the corner with the cat. I'm kinda talked out for the moment and just want to sit in the corner and absorb for a while.
Thanks.
