I need to get you one of those packs of victorian moustaches. The one with seven in it so you can wear a different one every day of the week.
(This is what you get for saying 'humours.')

Dude, I have had this problem since we moved to SF and I think mine is allergy-related although there's no itching involved. I have prescription "tears" that help a lot. Good luck. Until it's fixed, you can always go swimming with your eyes open, that will feel good!

I think you need to invest in some tiny spritz bottles. You can break them out during lulls in conversation. Cultivate a brief ritual that involves taking off your glasses and, while staring at the other person, use the tiny bottles to spritz each eye. Then blink each eye once, put your glasses back on, and keep talking.

"Bueller?"
"Bueller?"
This is my lame attempt to bring Visine to mind.
Alternatively, my health food store has some drops for this kind of thing, you could try that.

For future reference, dry eyes is sort of my specialty since I deal with Sjogren's people on a daily basis. Though my people have severe dry eye, and most of the stuff they use is heavy duty and might not be necessary for people like us who only suffer from dry eye every so often.
But if you ever want some suggestions for over the counter (and one prescription drug), let me know and I can send some suggestions your way.
