When you figure this out, please let me know - I want to read this crazy book!

This happens to me a lot, but most of the time I find out that I remember books how I want to remember them and that is not usually accurate. At all.

I would swear to you that I'm remembering most of these in-book events accurately. Someone somewhere has got to know.

Sounds like something you should ask on ask.metafilter.com. There are many MeFi users who can't recall the titles of certain books based on their vague memories, and other MeFi users seem to be pretty good at figuring them out.
