Does you company filter internet or anything of the sort? Or employ caching proxies?
That might muck up the page in unforeseen ways.

It works now! I wonder if looking at a location through Yelp had anything to do with it. Now regular ol' maps.google is back to its former healthy self.

Try [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Shift]+[F5]. That'll refresh the page without using the cache. It'll also reload the CSS, so that might overcome any inherited problems of viewing Google Earth from another link.
