I love Taibbi's pieces about Tom Friedman (I'd link them, but just Google appropriately -- they're fucking hysterical). I'd recommend reading "Blood of the Liberals," though, if you're looking for suggestions. Taibbi complains a lot; Packer has some ideas that help address Taibbi's complaints.

I think this must be an American thing because people in the UK are not worried about being called liberal and it doesn't conjure up images of burrowing creatures for me at least. I think liberalism is something we are proud of in the UK???
American left... that's a laugh, I remeber my politics lessons at school. When we were taught about the US sytem our teacher drew a comparison to our own system. He said
"Now, the Republicans, they are like our conservative party and the Democrats well they're more like our conservative party."
Not sure that's still true these days with Tony Blair but thought it was funny at the time.
I think a lot of people in Europe find it odd how repulsed americans are by the idea of socialism. like it or not all western democracies are a blend of captialism and socialism including the US.
