When I hung out with the Japanese exchange students in college, this is how they would always open their bags. It does make a kind of instant bowl for the chips, but also means you need to eat them all in one sitting because you'll never seal that bag up enough that they won't go stale.
Yeah, I always use scissors. It didn't even occur to me to tear it all the way across. I guess it avoids the '1/3 greasy bag between you and the chips' thing.
Now that they've brought back the thai ginger chips near my office, I need to try this.
