I got a bluetooth earpiece for my new phone a few weeks ago. It was about $50. I use it in the car and I have no regrets. Not having to deal with a wire is very, very nice. I actually take it out of my ear when not using it, which separates me from those dudes who go to restaurants and walk around with their family with them in their ear. Because they think that cell phones are sophisticated and impressive, rather than common as mailboxes.

RED ALERT
DO NOT GET THE DOUCHEY WIRELESS EAR PIECE
RED ALERT
Seriously, having an ear piece with a wire looks pretentious enough.

WARNING, DOUCHEY WIRELESS EARPIECE WILL BE THE STANDARD IN ANOTHER YEAR. WELCOME TO 2007.
Seriously, cell phones were all wanker-ific for a while, too. It just makes sense to get one for the car. Just don't walk around with it if you're not in the car. It's technology, not a career change.

I had to go with a wired one; my phone's not Bluetooth-capable. But the person had to dig around in order to find it -- Bluetooth headsets are pretty much the standard now! I just haven't gotten a new phone in years.

Just be aware that you're trading "wire gets caught on stuff" for "tiny but expensive ear piece is forgotten in pocket and goes through the washing machine". Ask the average owner of one of those things how long they can keep them alive.
