Since I don't have a blog, I'll just do the short version here:

Last book bought: Foucault's Discipline and Punish, because apparently I like both in my recreational reading.

Last read: Then We Came to The End by Joshua Ferris. Catch-22 for the corporate world.

Five that mean something:
The Dressing Station, Jonathan Kaplan
Cryptonomicon, Neal Stephenson
Catch-22, Joseph Heller
The Last Cavalier, Alexandre Dumas
Apathy and Other Small Victories, Paul Neilan

Gravatar But, which City of Saints and Madmen? Dude has published like a hundred and eleventy-four different editions.

Gravatar Man, I ain't know, I just bought the same exact book she gave me

Gravatar Ooh, it's time for me to do a book-related entry. But first:

Last book I bought: The Secret of Scent: Adventures in Perfume and the Science of Smell by Luca Turin. I still haven't cracked it.

Last Read: The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals by Michael Pollan.

Five books that mean something to me:

1. The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin.
2. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
3. American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
4. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
5. The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster - I ended up naming a friend's cat Norton Juster. I might reuse it. It's that good.
Oh damn, let's make it a tie for 5th:
The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde also sparked something.

Gravatar Last book I bought: Nick Bantock's Griffin and Sabine. The guy wanted $2.50; I gave him $5. It was worth it.

Last book I read: I have developed a new habit of not finishing, which is distressing. I am currently in the middle of QUANTUM REALITY, FUZZY LOGIC, and FRAGILE THINGS.

Five that mean something:
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. The construction is amazing, the prose is smooth and weightless and the story is universal.
CRYING OF LOT 49. Hysterical insanity does not cause blindness but rather insight, so there.
PC Hodgell's Jame books: Great character. Real ideas inextricable from tight plot.
Robin McKinley's THE BLUE SWORD: Don't ask, it's my inner teenage girl.
G. Rush's MATING: Great story, better character. Still tickled by the idea that one of the best female characters I have ever read was written by a man.
