There were a few interesting threads in here that I wanted to comment on. First, I found it disheartening that a comment about a worldview necessarily implies personal weaknesses in the people holding this view. The responder took DonaldGrant’s thoughts as a denigration of character rather than a position about a system. This, more than anything DonaldGrant said, implies a concern about mental health. The responder’s frustration, anger, and doubts concerned me.

On the other hand, I don’t see anything untenable about an atheistic worldview. I believe all other animals are atheistic, and I’ve never seen a suicidal dog. The nature of any species is survival, and I believe religion is often one of those tricks we use to propagate. Why else would all religions have rules for couples? They are ensuring the survival of the species. Without this, however, another system of rules would arise. A species survival is not based on religion. Religion is one of many possible tactics.

So, what would George MacDonald say about this?

I doubt animals are theistic or atheistic. I doubt the question occurs to them at all.

God did not give animals souls, so does it matter if the wonder if there is a God. They are here for us. We cant take them to Heven. We are here for God, he does take us to Heven, or send us to hell.
