Perhaps all this scandal could have been avoided if you explained to your hot celebrity wife impersonator that the bunny suit was all part of the campaign.
You invoked the rhetoric of years gone by, and wanted to promise a chicken in every pot. Due to the price of fuel, and the production of ethanol, chicken suits are in short supply. The next best, and obvious choice, is a bunny suit.
And, don't forget, as part of your proposed "Be kind to animals initiative," you are replacing spanking the monkey, with petting the bunny.

Being a candidate from IdaHo, you must be careful not to be misconstrued as having a wide stance nor having Catholic-priest tendencies. After pondering all of that, just wandering the streets in a bunny suit is hardly cause for concern much less a cause célèbre in this political season.
btw - when will you be having your party's convention? I want to book my flights and hotel room before everything is sold-out.
