OH MY GOD. You did NOT just disparage the Whataburger!! I think outside of its native Texas, it's probably quite different; where I'm from, though, it's the best. People in Texas revere Whataburger the way people in California revere In-N-Out.
It appears your local Whataburger DOES need to hire more employees who have a sense of humor.

WhataWhat K said -- I was in Beaumont, TX a few months ago and people were always lined up at the local Whataburger, even for breakfast. It's not bad, though I don't know whatawhat the fuss is about (same for the beloved fatburger, though we've yet to try the legendary In-n-out burger).

Yeah, well, people in Texas also like George Bush.
In 'n Out rules.

Last line has a typo. It should read:
And then, "Are you going to order or WHAT?"

Unpopular?! I think that's a matter of opinion. I know I always look forward to a Whataburger when I'm in the South. But, if you're used to them, they may not be that impressive.

I'm picturing Krusty the clown sitting at the other end of the intercom, sucking down a cigarette.

First on the list of priorities whenever we visit family in Texas is a Whataburger stop. Unpopular? News to me, but then again, I live in the midwest.

Some years ago, on a vacation trip to Arizona (coming from California) my ex had to stop at a Whataburger first thing. I wasn't as impressed.
In'n Out deserves its reputation, but an even better burger joint in SoCal is Tommy's. Their chili burgers are way awesome, and cheap too.
