Hi down and out, since this is an old post, I don't know whether you will read my comment or not, but here goes: thank you so much for this tutorial. I am a translator and need to use English, French and Vietnamese on my computer. Until I read your post, I've been using the insert function whenever I want to type in Vietnamese and, like you said, it's sooooooo tedious and slow. So I kowtow to you in sincere appreciation and gratitude.

Hi there,
For people with french keyboard, it is at last possible from version 4 to load a config file to be able to type in VNI. (see link below)
Pour les Fran
çais, il est enfin possible, à partir de la version 4, de taper en VNI ! (voir le lien ci-dessous)

hi there, i know this is an old post and not sure if you would get to read this but since I blog in both Vietnamese and English I find it much quicker to type vietnamese characters using a vietnamese -language forum, basically you just register and then 'pretend' that you are writing a message (with vietnamese characters) and then copy and paste it onto your blog. Suppose the only thing is that you have to be able to read vietnamese in order to register at a vietnamese forum.

The easiest way to enter Vietnamese characters in any application is using the little applet at www.vnkeys.com. Just type in Vietnamese and copy and paste it over any application. It's free and no software or anykind of plugin to download. Pure and simple.

Thanks so much for these instructions. Just the screen captures on how to switch the dialogue boxes to english was infinitely helpful. Do you know if this program is compatible with Windows Vista?
