The Powers That Be

Gravatar Arkansas Trailer Park? My wife and I lived in one from 91 to 94 and it wasn't too bad since ours was close to the manager's office but it was no bed of roses though we did have flowers and trees.Living in Northwest Arkansas is a lot different than living close to Little Rock where you could probably see Carville dragging a twenty dollar bill down the street in one of their trailer parks.

Gravatar See that, Arky? A regular here actually lived in an Arkansas trailer park and wasn't offended by the comment.

You weren't offended were you, Earl? ... Earl? ...

Gravatar Please do not feed the stereotype...unless it is the correct stereotype, that is!

If your little paragraph had mentioned "beagles" or "deer hunting" I would have been right there with you. Your reference is just so...outdated.

Most of us have given up WWF because we cannot afford the PPV fees. Wife-swapping went out of fashion with the advent of AIDS all those years ago. And one never knows these days what may set off massive protests; thank goodness you did not include a cartoon with your commentary!

I agree that Mrs. King's funeral being hijacked by politics was just sad. I thought the same thing at Paul Wellstone's funeral.

If these are the best people our country can produce as leaders, we are in huge trouble. They appear to have no decorum or respect for anything, incuding themselves. How sad that the family had to endure this crap at their mother's funeral.

What can we do? There are a lot of "politically unhappy" Americans these days. It just spills out everywhere, even at inappropriate times. It bodes ill for both Democrats and Republicans. These ridiculous public displays do nothing to foster warm feelings, either.

Enjoy your polo match and be careful not to fall off your horse. It is illegal to drive a horse while drinking, so save the champagne for afterwards. Always hunt responsibly.

Thank you for your keen attention to this little matter. I will continue reading your work at WND. If you ever come out this way be sure to come see us, ya' hear?

Gravatar Oh, come on, I'm Irish, and I can still laugh at a good "drunken Irishman" joke... if I'm sober enough to understand it.

By the way, I like NASCAR, for what it's worth, and I also frequent Walmart and have even carried around an open beer with the plastic rings still attached. Hell, I shouldn't be knocked by Arkansans in trailer parks, I should be awarded the key to the tin city!

Gravatar No I wasn't offended because I didn't see anything that was personally offensive, maybe if I lived closer to Little Rock or was still living in a trailer instead of a duplex in Springdale,AR...No not even then.

Gravatar Heh, I lived in Monticello (south-east AR) for a few years back in the 70's, we used to go frog gigging (more fun than it sounds) out on Big Bayou, and speaking of trailer parks, some-a dem folks thought people that lived in trailers were uppity snobs.

Gravatar I can remember when apartment dwellers were considered uppity snobs.

Back on topic: when Billy Jeff mentioned that there is a woman in that coffin, I couldn't help but remember his comments about that mummy a few years back. He,WJC, always has that smarmy look about him like he is just holding back some secret joke he has just told himself and hadn't heard it before.

Gravatar "They appear to have no decorum or respect for anything, incuding themselves. How sad that the family had to endure this crap at their mother's funeral."

My gut feeling is that they were singing a great big amen to the Bush bashing...it wouldn't be good for business if some perception of equality and peace among the races were to actually slip out. Unfortunately, I believe Dr. King would roll over in his grave to see the extent a large majority of black Americans are going to in order to segragate themselves from the white man.

Just my opinion, I welcome yours...

Frank

Gravatar I agree. I grew up in the South where prejudice seemed almost hardwired into the central nervous system of the majority of the white population.
Over the years I have seen this gradually die out. Now the desire for segregation seems to be coming more from within the black community itself.
At my child's school, the black students huddle together wearing a peculiar "uniform" type of clothing involving pants that are several sizes too large, listening to rap music, and speaking a language that is only barely comparable to English. My kid tells me it is called "Ebonics".
After all the strife, lives lost and birth pangs for civil rights, we now have what seems to be the exact same situation....segregation.
Since this segregation seems to be voluntary, I can only shake my head in amazement. If a group chooses to remain apart, that is what it will do.
Equal opportunity is only helpful to those who choose to use it. IMHO, it seems that the majority choose to pull out the race issue and blame all their troubles on that.
I am waiting for the day that a Caucasian stands up in a courtroom and tells a judge that he would not be in this predicament if he were not white. Then I will know without a doubt that it was really all for nothing.
