"Slick Leb" is the troll also known as "Hezbollah Lover," who is banned from my Web site. FYI.

ah, I see. I was wondering. Hey, I have a question for you, but I can't post it there, for some reason. Among the many reasons my co-workers give for why Iraq is still, ever was, and always will be a failure, is that the current progress toward reconciliation is so fragile all it would take is one terrorist bomb attack against a Sunni shrine to throw it all back into civil war. In your opinion, is that the case?

Cal, I appreciate that you were asking the question of MJT, but I will take the opportunity to toss in my 2 cents.
I think that all sides in the Iraqi quagmire will cool things off until they can get America to leave.
As soon as the last GI turns off the lights it will be all on - and Saddam's "genocides" will look like the consequences of granny parking her mobility scooter by ear.
It will not settle in this generation. It will require the three way partition that the Kurds and Shi'a want. And don't look for what is now "I-rack" (pun intended) to provide the cheap oil that GWB is now begging from the Saudis.

Thanks, but I was askihg someone who had actually been there, had actually been out of his own country, much less his own bubble, and who had some appreciation for likely developments rather than wished-for ones. I've already got my failure-invested journalistic co-workers for the other sort of answer.

I'd like to see Totten's answer to that. It's a good question.

Maybe you can get the comments thingy to work on his site, and ask it on our behalf. I can't seem to do that.

I'd tend to take some of the Iraqis at their word, when they say, in effect, "Been there, done that, didn't like it at all!"
Mookie has much to gain by trying to ensure that it's "on" again soon, but his house is built on sand which is rapidly being washed away.
And AQI is too godawful at PR and civic admin to ever have a prayer with the Iraqi public again. True or not, the circulating story of serving baked boys to recalcitrant parents has done irreparable harm.
