Gravatar The other set of bloggers paying attention to this issue are the servicemembers themselves.

Kirk Johnson started by helping his coworkers get to the US. The list kept growing: http://www.thelistproject.org/

This issue, like other veterans' and refugee issues, is not about whether the war was right or wrong (I have my own feelings, but they are irrelevant in this case). These interpreters have warned US military personnel about dangerous situations and have quelled violence that could have resulted from misunderstandings, all while exposing themselves and their families to grave danger. Supporters of the war must realize that finding hidden weapons (big and small) through informants works best with effective communication. Those who oppose war in general should see some wisdom in forging relationships across national, religious, and ethnic barriers. In the end, people are suffering. Helping them is possible. Isn't that what we as Americans claim to be all about?

Gravatar Thanks for the info, Karen, and thanks for the thoughtful words.

Gravatar Good lord, that's disgusting. Sometimes I suffer a mild hallucination where these same bureaucrats sign deportation forms sending the Jew's off to the German extermination camps. I'm pretty sure the same psychology was in play.

Gravatar Oh, for fuck's sake. The KDP is not and never was a terrorist organization. Half the Kurdish government is KDP, and they're staunch American allies. They're the best American allies in the whole goddamn country.

Gravatar I heard about this from Hilzoy. Which of your two sets of bloggers do you classify her with?

Given all the attention to this case, it seems likely an exception will be made for Mr Ahmad. What concerns me is that they'll give him a special pass and then go back to business as usual, without recognizing the real problem isn't just this one guy but that the whole law is stupid.

You know there's got to be dozens of other guys being screwed by this same stupid law, but they don't have the same high profile and influential sponsors to get noticed.

Gravatar Oh, for fuck's sake. ...

Yep. That pretty much sums it up.

(Thanks, C.)

Gravatar I'm surprised at you, Mark. Usually you read better than that. The phrase is "mostly from two sets of bloggers."

Gravatar My bad.

In my sample of one (now two), she comprised "most".

Gravatar Wait, did I just use "comprise" wrong? Maybe I need to go to bed now.
