Gravatar Cute!

But why is dies in the accusative case?

Gravatar I'm flaunting my amateurism as a Latinist, that's why.

Gravatar Macaronics can be amusing when they're clever and not overused. I tend to find them irritating when used in ignorance (as in mixing Latin and Greek because you don't know the Greek for something).

Gravatar It simply occurred to me that "retrospect" and "hindsight" are the same word, one in English, one in Latin. I almost always tend to prefer English.

Gravatar There are a remarkable number of such word-pairs and the Anglo-Saxon rooted word almost always has a stronger feel to it.

G. K. Chesterton had a wonderful comment that's a propos. Something about the notion that scientists are naturally agnostics is an absurdity that comes from speaking Latin and Greek rather than plain English since science means knowledge and agnosticism means ignorance.
